ERIC WASSON

Described as a multihyphenate model with her tough-meets-tomboy style, Erin Wasson released her new RVCA clothing line in 2008. She was highly criticised for a statement she made in an interview with Nylon TV during the launch. When asked about her inspiration she said, “The people with the best style for me are the people that are the poorest. Like, when I go down to Venice beach and I see the homeless, like, I’m like, ‘Oh my God, they’re pulling out, like, crazy looks and they, like, pulled shit out of like garbage cans”.

To me , the ignorance lies in thinking that homeless people pull looks out of garbage cans, the same a stylist pulls looks off a rail. There is lack of thought when a homeless person is dressing because there are limited resources and the main focus is survival. It is a amazing to believe that people look at the homeless people in Venice and see their clothes before they see the people underneath them.
